Opened to the public in October 1985, the Kent State University Museum was founded with an initial contribution from New York dress manufacturers Jerry Silverman and Shannon Rodgers.

It opened in 1985. Housed in the original (1927) KSU Library building it contains eight galleries of polished marble, glass and mirrors showcasing apparel and textiles.
