This course gives an introduction into the study of languages, the field of linguistics. With the support of the basic linguistic terminology that is offered in the course, you will soon be able to comment both on variety between languages, as well as on a single language’s internal structure.

Introduction to Linguistics includes topics from a college-level survey course, adapted to fit the needs of modern gifted learners. This is semester-long high school course at the honors level.
Do I need to take an introductory linguistics course to complete phonetics??
Phonetics (LING 205) and Child Language Acquisition/Language Development in Children and Adolescents (LING 319/CSD 211), both require an introductory linguistics course. If you have taken LING 101 here at the University of Alberta, you are set. If you have not, the automated system will not recognize your prerequisite.
