What is Student Legal Assistance??
Student Legal Assistance (SLA) is a pro-bono legal clinic that provides legal information and representation to low-income residents of Calgary and the surrounding area. Operating since 1979, SLA is a non-profit, registered charitable organization that is staffed primarily by current University of Calgary law student caseworkers.
Where can I get free legal assistance??
DLS provides free legal assistance to people who cannot afford legal services in the following areas: Criminal law, Family law, Refugee law, Tenant Housing and University Affairs. The clinic is staffed by U of T students working under the close supervision of lawyers.
Where can I get legal advice??
Legal advice is provided by Bill Reid,LLB who holds both an MBA as well as a law degree, and has been practicing law and counseling students for over fifteen years. In addition to the services mentioned above, he is also available to explain legal procedures and documents to students using the services of another lawyer.
What are the different types of legal aid services in Ontario??
There are 59 general legal clinics and seven student legal aid services societies across Ontario. 1 Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program. 2 disputes between tenants and landlords. 3 social housing matters. 4 Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement. 5 wrongful dismissal and other employment issues.
